It has been an amazing few days since we got little Jax.
Over the past years Thom and I have been talking about getting a dog. We have had encounters with dogs on Karpathos. Dogs which we could adopt. Clearly it always seemed to be the wrong moment due to all of our traveling. This time we felt different.
During our year working on the tropical Maldives (where dogs are not allowed to be at all) as dive instructors we started to realize how much joy these four-legged friends give. We have missed to have dogs around us. Knowing that we’d be moving to Karpathos for a permanent stay, not moving around anymore like the nomads we’ve always been, the idea became a mission. We had decided to get ourselves a furry family member. One that could even become the company dog.
Right now he is still little and he has lots of growing up to do. Now it’s time for playing and lots of cuddling. However, Jax has lots of energy and he will for sure lead some walks with us this summer.
We have always wanted to have a black Labrador. For me especially because I grew up with one. Where does Jax come from you wonder? He is a wonderful Viking Labrador! We got him some days ago in Sweden, right after we returned from the Maldives. We had to drive eight hours to pick him up and right now he gets to enjoy the Swedish weather and even a bit of snow now and then.
In a few weeks we are finally really moving to Karpathos. You’ll probably already have guessed that our ‘luggage’ will be a bit more heavy than expected. We had thought to bring Jax in the cabin of the flight, but he is growing so fast that he will need to travel in a crate in the airplane hold. That’s why we’ll also travel partly with the ferry so we can have him with us in a dog friendly cabin. It’ll be a long journey for little Jax to travel from Sweden to Karpathos, but he is surely going to love his new home.
Cheers, Renate
