Walking Difficulty Grades

Walking Difficulty Grading.

To make sure that you feel well prepared for your walk or hike please check the walking difficulty grades below. All our walks and hikes have been personally tested and graded by our team. Read the explanation of each grade to choose a walk that suits your ability.

How does walking or hiking grading work?

How long is the walk?
Our walks are for everyone. Pick your best match. The duration of the walk or hike is shown in hours actually walked by Thom & Renate, allowing a relaxed holiday pace, including time for a cup of tea, loving the views, looking at wild goats and taking pictures.

How hard is the walk?
A walk or hike can be easy for one person and hard for another. It’s all about your personal health and physical condition. You can take a look at the length of the walk or hike in kilometers and the height difference to get a better idea of what you can expect. A walk from +250 meters to 0 meter is mainly downhill and a walk from +600 meters to +1250 meters is a tougher up (and down) hike.

How does the terrain look?
The paths we use for our walks and hikes are made of gravel, concrete, sand and stone. With decent footwear and a clear profile on the bottom of your shoes you will be able to go anywhere on the island. We don’t recommend open sandals for walks and hikes with elevation change as gravel will get in between your toes and make you uncomfortable.

Challenging (3/4): for someone with a good hiking condition that can handle significant ascend and descend. Paths are more uneven and some steep sections.

Difficult (4/4): for someone in excellent hiking condition that can handle significant increase in ascend and descend. Paths are uneven and many steep sections.
