Start at the mountain village of Menetes where we take you directly to the village’s largest church which offers a fantastic panoramic view. You can take the local bus to get to Menetes or let a taxi drop you off. From here we can see Pigadia but don’t forget to look the other way where Menetes spreads in all its splendor with its colorful houses and streets.
We leave the church and stop for a cup of coffee at a local taverna. Have a coffee if you want or just enjoy the atmosphere of this hidden little gem in one of the many streets of Menetes. Get to know the spirit of the mountain village where the first settlements came as early as the Middle Ages when pirates ruled the Aegean Sea. We explore the streets a bit more before a small visit to the local bakery awaits (if it is open). The best bakery in Karpathos if you ask us!
Once we leave the streets of Menetes, the lush green area of Kouri is waiting just below Menetes. From here we get a very nice view of Menetes as it’s clear to see how the village is located on the slope of the mountain. We visit a small chapel on our way back to Pigadia as we get closer to the end of this walk.
