We head towards the northern part of the island. Up north we start our hike nearby the abandoned rural area of Aposkinou. The terraces in this area seem infinite! The path along the Kaka Skalia and the Alifti Riza make way for impressive views towards Mesochori and Olympos. An impressive church known as the Monastira built on top of an older temple shows us culture in the midst of beautiful nature. Pie and Masias are also names of rural areas in Northern Karpathos which we will hike through.
We get to see history along this hike with old bee hives (thyri), wells, water tanks, ovens, and last but not least the Mantinades. Carved into the mountains you will discover folk songs, known as Mantinades in Greek, from 1993.
This hike is only for experienced hikers. The hike takes about 5 hours in a relaxed pace with little breaks along the way.
